I changed a color but nothing changed
The section you're looking at is on a color scheme, so it ignores the global swatch you edited. Global colors and color schemes are two separate layers, and a scheme wins wherever it's applied.
To find out which layer controls the section:
- In the theme editor, select the section.
- Look for its Color scheme setting. If a scheme is set, that scheme's colors are painting the section — not the global swatches.
To fix it, edit the right layer:
- To recolor a single section, open Theme settings → Colors, edit the scheme that section uses, and change one of its five colors: Background, Text, Muted text, Border, or Accent.
- To recolor the whole storefront, edit the global swatches under Theme settings → Colors. Sections with no scheme applied follow these.
A scheme re-points background, text, muted text, border, and accent. It also derives two more colors from the accent you set — the accent hover state and the soft accent background used behind focus rings and highlights — so you don't set those per scheme. A scheme whose accent matches the global accent inherits your hand-tuned global hover and accent-background values instead of derived ones.
Text sitting on an accent-colored surface — a primary button's label, for example — is painted with that scheme's own Background color, so it follows whatever you set there. There is no separate control for it.
Note
Surface, strong border, dark panels, and the status colors stay global on every scheme. If you changed one of those expecting a single section to shift, it moved everywhere instead.
