Wholesale setup

This is the end-to-end sequence for turning Wonpa into a working wholesale storefront. Follow it in order — each step builds on the one before.

Note

Shopify B2B is available on all plans, so you don't need Shopify Plus to use catalogs, quantity rules, or volume pricing with Wonpa. What the plan changes is scale: Basic, Grow, and Advanced allow up to three active catalogs across your B2B markets, while Shopify Plus allows an unlimited number and can assign them directly to specific company locations. See Overview of B2B features for what your plan includes.

Before you start

Wonpa reads wholesale data that Shopify holds; the theme creates none of it. Set the following up in your Shopify admin before you work through the steps below, or the theme has nothing to display.

To check which B2B features your store's plan includes, see Shopify's overview of B2B features on Shopify.

1. Enable customer accounts

Wholesale pricing and quick ordering are tied to a signed-in buyer. In your Shopify admin, open Settings → Customer accounts and turn accounts on. Without accounts, there is no way to tell a wholesale buyer from a guest.

B2B buyers need the newer customer accounts, not legacy customer accounts (also called classic customer accounts). Shopify's legacy accounts cannot be used for B2B customers or orders, so a buyer signing in through them reaches their account but never their catalog prices. Shopify's comparison of customer accounts and legacy customer accounts lists what each supports, and setting up and managing customer accounts covers the switch. For how B2B sign-in works once accounts are on, see sign-in and customer accounts in B2B.

2. Gate prices for guests

Decide whether the public can see prices. To hide prices and ordering until a visitor signs in, open Theme settings → Wholesale and turn on Hide prices for guests. This suits a closed wholesale store. Leave it off for a mixed retail-and-wholesale store.

Full behavior, including what guests see instead of a price, is in Login-gated wholesale pricing.

3. Set quantity rules

Case packs and order minimums come from Shopify's quantity rules, read straight from the variant. Quantity rules live on a catalog, not on the product itself: in your Shopify admin, open Markets → Catalogs, select the catalog, then Manage → Manage products and pricing, and set the minimum, maximum, and increment in the Quantity rules column. The theme applies these everywhere a buyer sets a quantity: product pages, the size matrix, and the quick order page. Shopify's setting up quantity rules and volume pricing in B2B has the full steps.

Quantity rules are a Plus B2B feature. On stores without them, quantities fall back to a minimum of one with no increment.

4. Present volume pricing

There are two ways to show volume pricing, and they stack.

  • Set company-specific prices with B2B catalogs. The theme reads the quantity price breaks and renders a volume-pricing table on the product page. Keep it visible with Theme settings → Wholesale → Show volume pricing table.
  • Show the retail comparison alongside it. Theme settings → Product cards → Show MSRP and margin displays the compare-at price as MSRP next to the wholesale price. It ships enabled, and it needs no B2B setup at all — just compare-at prices on your variants.

Both approaches are covered in Volume pricing tiers. For how catalogs and price lists work on Shopify's side, see catalogs and pricing in B2B.

5. Add order meters

Two progress meters nudge buyers toward larger orders, and both live in Theme settings.

  1. Set Theme settings → Wholesale → Minimum order amount to nudge buyers toward a minimum subtotal. A meter in the cart tracks progress toward it; it does not block checkout. Zero disables the meter.
  2. Set Free freight threshold to show buyers how much more they need for free freight.

See Cart progress meters for how each meter reads and announces.

6. Build the quick order page

Give buyers a bulk-ordering workbench. Add a page under Online Store → Pages and assign the quick-order template, then link to it — Header → Show quick order link turns on a header link. Point buyers at frequently reordered products with the section's Frequently purchased collection setting.

The full page is documented in Quick order page.

7. Turn on quote requests

For products a buyer needs to negotiate, enable quote requests under Theme settings → Wholesale → Enable quote requests. This is the switch the Request a quote banner section reads — add that section to a page to surface the request link.

8. Show the B2B badge

The announcement bar can carry a wholesale badge and a call to action. Open the Announcement bar section, keep Show B2B badge on, and set Badge text (it ships reading "B2B Wholesale"). Set Button label and Button link for a "Become a stockist" prompt.

See Announcement bar for the badge and the company location switcher.
